Description:
This is an intensive course focusing on artistic production through
networked multimedia environments: specifically, the World-Wide-Web.
Emphasis is on creative content, experimentation, critical and independent
thinking. The nature of this course in to be an intensive synthesis
of the artistic, theoretical, creative and technical aspects of online
communication, and students are expected to apply their independent
interests to their work.
Hands on instruction will introduce students to the basic technologies
enabling Web-based artistic production: Macromedia Dreamweaver, DHTML,
Javascript, Macromedia Flash and SoundEdit 16. There will be three creative
assignments, and one midterm exam. In addition, all students are required
to attend at least one lecture at the EDA.
Structure:
Creative production on and will be presented throughout the quarter,
and class time will be increasingly focused on student projects as the
quarter progresses. The class schedule will be available on the website,
and will be updated as changes occur.
Expectations:
Enrollment in this class means that each student fully immerses themselves
in the process of inquiry, experimentation, critique, challenge, delight,
frustration and curiosity. This entails keeping an open and inquisitive
mind, sharing your knowledge and discoveries with classmates and maintaining
a self-driven desire to learn.
I expect you to come to each class on time, prepared to work. Tardiness
is not acceptable, you will be marked absent if you are more than 15
minutes late. More than one unexused absence will lower your grade,
and more than three will jeopardize your passing the class.
Grading:
Projects will be graded for the following criteria: 1) content 2) interface
design 3) aesthetics and 4) technical implementation. Web #1: 10% Web
